How we build roads
Compacted in layers. Tested before the next.
Fill is placed and rolled in controlled layers. Each layer is then tested in the field by the core cutter method: a steel cylinder is driven into the compacted soil to measure its dry density, which is compared with the laboratory Proctor maximum. Only when the layer reaches the specified compaction does the next one go on.
